There seem to be a lot of riders who joined the forum after purchasing their first bike. I started feeling nostalgic, or just old, thinking of my first ride. There was a time when “kick-starter” meant something else entirely. So here she is/was: 1973 Suzuki GT380. 3-cylinder, 2-stroke, “Ram-Air” cooled, 3 into 4 exhaust. Got her for free, not running. Cleaned out the carbs, Hung the exhaust to drain the oil out, put some air in the rather square, dry-rotted tires and was hooked.

    What was your first ride?

Nothing so exciting as those two sadly! I was about to buy a BSA 250 from a mate but then my Dad saw it and said ‘it’s a rust-bucket, you’re not riding that death-trap’ and promptly took me to the local Honda dealer and put a down payment on a brand new Honda CB125T – it was like a baby Super Dream but I still longed for a 250 Super Dream lol. If I find a picture I’ll post one…

1978 Honda XR75. Not this one but it looked like:

My very first ride on it I rode it straight up the trunk of a big oak tree and did a vertical u-turn on my ass. Good times.

Mine was a 1994 Honda CBR F2. . .I will have to dig up a picture, it was before I had gotten into the digital age and was still taking pictures with film. . Lol. It was an impulse buy so it probably cost as much to get it back to stock as it did to buy it. . . Water pump, cam tensioner, new tires, real headlight, real tail light. . .exhaust, etc. . It was a true learning experience . And had a weird ignition issue where I think the tilt sensor would randomly cut off the engine, luckily only happened when I was stopped. . .irony is that I laid it down just before I got rid of it and it kept running until I hit the cut off switch. .
